The Mom Effect: Becoming WonderMom
For years I have been studying various self-development programs, reading through a few stacks of books in personal growth and development, and yet in all my exposure to these life changing subjects, one piece for me has always been missing – the perspective of a Mother.
There is a significant effect in the role and perspective of a mother when it comes to professional growth and development. Not to mention the lack of time consideration in all these programs. In most cases, I would always say to myself, this is all Great information but I also have to juggle being a mother, how do I apply these methodologies and find time to take care of my children; How do I attend these events to learn more about these subjects when most events are too far to attend and do not provide babysitting services at the least. Other events, even webinars are at times when I am putting my children to bed. I always found that these inconveniences were what would cause me to walk away and find other programs, or simply purchase stacks of books and self-study because I was able to control my time management in doing so. I realized that a mother’s needs were different then most other people, and the need for support in personal growth and development was as critical as the next executive leader. Engaging in self-discovery while taking care of your children is an epic journey, and one that needs to be nurtured carefully for you to really come to a place where you can successfully juggle both.
The reality is that the MOST important thing you can do for your children is to take care of yourself, and when you are not given an opportunity to do so, you seldom take-on the empowering act of discovering who you are as a person.
Last on the List
Mothers often and innately place the needs of their family well ahead of their own. Throw in a thirst for the entrepreneurial world or an executive career and you have just added a tone more guilt to your ability to juggle it all (don’t forget dinner has to be on the table at 6pm sharp and it better be to the likes of all those little taste testers you must appease and ensure their little bellies are full). This behaviour of putting the world around you first, and yourself last continues over time, and many years later, many women find themselves at the helm of an overwhelming life without a clear sense of who they are aside from their most pivotal role of being a mother. Many women enter the work place throughout their care-giving years, some stay at home and raise their children and decide to enter the professional world once their children are at a particular age, and others juggle it all.
The key behind being confident in all of these choices is to take the time to take care of yourself throughout your journey as a mother, and I do not simply mean a yoga class here and there, I mean discovering who you are as a person, uncovering your old beliefs and behaviours that no longer serve you and creating new ones that better serve who you are today. When you take on this challenge, you serve not only your highest self, but you serve your children, because they learn from you, they learn from whatever beliefs you have and when you take the time to redefine your beliefs and values, you get to hand-off all these amazing new beliefs that better serve who you are, not who your grandparents were. You then pass along these beliefs and behaviours on to your children, which they then carry with them throughout their lifetime. There is a generational effect at play here – and it all starts with YOU!
We hold on to old beliefs we have acquired as children, and we carry those beliefs until we consciously choose to dig them out and review them to determine if they still serve who we are today. We then project those beliefs and values onto our children and into our parenting paradigms. These beliefs are then carried with our children until they undergo similar processes of self-discovery.
The Secret No One Told You About Parenting
The secret I have uncovered to all this juggling and finding a way to create not just an outer balance but a true deep inner balance that includes an ability of taming ones ego (I am referring to that constant guilt fest you feel as a mother) to one that allows a mother to flourish in all realms of her life, is the art of self-discovery (please see previous article: The Art of Self-Discovery: Yes It is an Art). It wasn’t until I began a journey of personal growth and self-discovery, and began to dig out all my old perspectives that I acquired in my past experiences; old beliefs and current behaviours, was I then ready to take on the world and be the BEST mother I could BE.
The truth is, the role of a mother continues to unveil for me that this is an epic role, rewarding at times and sooo damn hard other times. Wanting to give your kids the best life experiences, and equipping them with all they need to go into the world and find happiness and success, creates a great deal of pressure, and that’s not to mention and include ensuring everyone is bathed and cleaned with food in their tummies.
Another truth to is all is that how can you teach your children something you are not practicing yourself. You must practice what you preach in the world of parenting, there is no other way to teach your children about Life.
Thus WonderMom Was Born
After taking the deep, dark and dirty road to self discovery, I chose to take all my insights and lesson’s learned, and develop a coaching program designed for mothers at all stages of life. This online self-directed program is designed to be four weeks in length, but you can take as long or as short as you wish because things happen in the life of a mother. You will learn about yourself in ways you may have not yet undergone – THIS IS LIFE CHANGING!
The program focuses on four units of study:
- Uncovering Who You are
- Old Beliefs. New Beliefs
- Igniting Your Passion
- Introduction to the Law of Attraction
Each lesson provides you with a practical approach to apply all the concepts in your life, and includes a workbook and activities for you to work along side. The magic happens when you engage and participate in the activities and start to experience the shift in yourself.
Finally! A program that enables mothers to discover who they are, who they really are, after a journey of losing themselves for the betterment of their children. This program is developed for mothers with the intention to help you become the best mother you can be, thus WOMDERMOM is born. Unleash your truth, discover your passion, identify your old beliefs and create new beliefs that you can bestow upon your children with confidence while you define who you are.
